Summary
The world we knew is gone。 The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility。 An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe， causing the dead to rise and feed on the living。 In a matter of months society has crumbled: no government， no grocery stores， no mail delivery， no cable TV。 In a world ruled by the dead， the survivors are forced to finally start living。

The Walking Dead chapter one: Days Gone ByeIn the first volume of the series we follow a cop named Rick who falls in a month long coma after getting shot in the line of duty。 After he wakes up he sees that almost everyone has turned into zombies （in the comic they don't call them zombies tho， because they weren't a part of their pop culture）。 He quickly learns that most people have moved into the big cities， so he does that as well， in order to find his wife and kid。 When he arrives in the big c The Walking Dead chapter one: Days Gone ByeIn the first volume of the series we follow a cop named Rick who falls in a month long coma after getting shot in the line of duty。 After he wakes up he sees that almost everyone has turned into zombies （in the comic they don't call them zombies tho， because they weren't a part of their pop culture）。 He quickly learns that most people have moved into the big cities， so he does that as well， in order to find his wife and kid。 When he arrives in the big city tho he sees that everyone has turned into zombies there as well， but with the help of another survivor he finds outside of the city a small camp with more survivors， two of which are his wife and son。 Another one of the members of the camp is his cop partner who has feelings for Rick's wife。 All together try to survive against the zombies in this apocalypse。 This was much better than I expected and I can clearly see why this whole series was and still is vastly successful。 It's very well written， with great character moments， but also great action。 It's very sweet and also action packed and captivating。 I think that this combination is what makes it so easy to read and love。 This volume is certainly centered around the characters and their relationships。 It's very interesting how this group of mostly strangers tries to survive from the zombies and also the daily interactions with one another。 This situation has affected almost everyone for the worse and it's understandable that they are all on edge。 They try to come up with plans to survive， but because everyone is nervous and everything is a life or death situation they frequently fight for said plans。 Something else that I liked a lot in this first volume is that main characters start dying， something that indicates that the reader shouldn't get very attached to the characters， because Robert Kirkman clearly has no problem killing them。 The artwork is really beautiful。 It's not very realistic， so the violence isn't very gory nor the zombies are disgusting and while that might sound like it doesn't fit with a story like that， in my opinion it works perfectly， because it let's the reader focus on things other than the violence。 Anyone can still "enjoy" said violence， but he/she can also appreciate that this comic is much more than just a zombie apocalypse horror story and it's mostly about the characters， their reactions and their relationships。 Overall I think that this was a really great start to the series that introduces the world， the characters and the basic plot very well and sets the mood for what's to come。 10/10 。。。more

The only thing that keeps this from being a five-star read is the illogical jumps in time。 I don’t understand why they chose to structure it that way。 I’m a huge fan of the art style。

I’m glad I can finally say The Walking Dead is my first comic book read。 I’m obsessed with the show， more so the first few seasons， so it’s been interesting reading the comics version of events。 The illustrations are brilliant and I love how there are characters in the comics that don’t exist on the show and vice versa。 For example you don’t hear about Daryl or Merle， but there is a character called Donna。 The storyline is a lot better on the show because of course they’ve used the comic as a gu I’m glad I can finally say The Walking Dead is my first comic book read。 I’m obsessed with the show， more so the first few seasons， so it’s been interesting reading the comics version of events。 The illustrations are brilliant and I love how there are characters in the comics that don’t exist on the show and vice versa。 For example you don’t hear about Daryl or Merle， but there is a character called Donna。 The storyline is a lot better on the show because of course they’ve used the comic as a guideline。 I preferred how certain events where played out on the show， especially the end scene to this comic， which is why a star is lost。 It’s a quick read that’s available on prime reading at the moment。 。。。more

I want to start off by saying that I own up to volume 12 of these and have already read up to volume 7 before so I won't be reviewing all of them as I am re-reading and adding them to my Goodreads however， I thought as this is the first one I might as well！Firstly， the art work is just outstanding and the amount of detail in each image is crazy。 I love the character driven story， the people seem so real and like with most things you have characters you like and dislike more than others。 I find t I want to start off by saying that I own up to volume 12 of these and have already read up to volume 7 before so I won't be reviewing all of them as I am re-reading and adding them to my Goodreads however， I thought as this is the first one I might as well！Firstly， the art work is just outstanding and the amount of detail in each image is crazy。 I love the character driven story， the people seem so real and like with most things you have characters you like and dislike more than others。 I find the images and words easy to follow and understand what's going on and you can distinguish who's who quite easily。I am a massive fan of the show and although the show differs a lot from the comics， I appreciate and love both。 As I said I have already read up to volume 7 previously but I am enjoying my re-read and I look forward to getting to volumes I haven't read。 。。。more

The Walking Dead volume 1: Days Gone Bye。 Let me start this review by saying that I am not a fan of the following: horror， or zombies， and I gave up on The Walking Dead tv adaptation after season 3。 This was part of Zavvi’s Threads box for December 2020， definitely a twisted Christmas choice on their part！I thought I had best at least give the graphic novel a go。 What did I have to lose？ I was however sceptical given the subject matter and content。But oh my did this surprise me！ The story focuse The Walking Dead volume 1: Days Gone Bye。 Let me start this review by saying that I am not a fan of the following: horror， or zombies， and I gave up on The Walking Dead tv adaptation after season 3。 This was part of Zavvi’s Threads box for December 2020， definitely a twisted Christmas choice on their part！I thought I had best at least give the graphic novel a go。 What did I have to lose？ I was however sceptical given the subject matter and content。But oh my did this surprise me！ The story focuses on the humans that have so far survived the zombie apocalypse。 We are thrown into this world along with main character Rick Grimes。 Rick Grimes is a decent family man with a wife and kid， a stable job as a cop in a small town。 What could possibly go wrong？ Well he could get shot on the job and end up in a coma。 By the time he comes round， the world has gone to hell。From what I remember of the show， season 1 is pretty faithful to the events of this first volume。 We follow Rick as he adapts to this new world and is trying to find his family。This is a very human story， the zombies take the back seat。 It’s all about the drama between our survivors and how each of them are coping with the world。 It certainly made me think， how would I deal with this situation？The artwork is great。 I was quite surprised when I found out it was all black， white and multiple shades of grey。 But they convey so much with that they show colour is not always needed。 The art itself is highly detailed， gritty look， from our humans to the gore of the undead。Suffice to say this has been a pleasant surprise to read， well the quality of the story， the subject matter is certainly not pleasant！ Like myself， if you are not a fan of zombies， horror， The Walking Dead tv show I’d recommend giving this a shot。The couple questions I have at the end of this are: is it worth me continuing with the graphic novels？ Is it worth me revisiting the tv show？ 。。。more
